NovaKnowledge congratulated the province of Nova Scotia on Tuesday for its e-waste
regulations, which were announced Friday. It also commended the electronics industry on its willingness to comply, adding that banning the disposal of electronic waste in
landfills is creating an e-waste processing industry, with manufacturers becoming more innovative. Tim Outhit, executive director of NovaKnowledge, said Nova Scotians will be taking their televisions, computers, monitors and printers to recycling depots free of charge, which is smart regulation. Under the province's e-waste regulations, consumers buying new electronics will pay an environmental handling fee, which varies depending on the item.  The list of electronic items will be expanded in 2009 to include phones and cell phones, scanners, faxes and video recording devices, making Nova Scotia a leader in Canada in e-waste diversion.
