This report card is the first step in on-going evaluation of agriculture’s interface with the environment in Nova Scotia. Its purpose is to evaluate the industry’s environmental stewardship agenda, set benchmarks, assess progress and communicate findings. In the absence of empirical data on which to base true indicators, surrogate indicators have been identified based on available data, against which the agricultural industry’s performance will be measured. To achieve a thriving, sustainable economy with a shrinking workforce and an aging population, innovation and entrepreneurship are required. The key is a creative, well-educated and highly-skilled workforce. The Report Card focuses on Defining & Developing Tomorrow's Workforce. The looming skills crisis affects everyone. Meeting the crisis head-on will require new levels of collaboration and cooperation between government, educators, employers, organized labour, parents and individuals. Nova Scotia's future prosperity depends on it. To download a copy of the 2006/07 Knowledge Economy Report Card, click here. The 1998 Report Card was the first published in our series of annual Report Cards focusing on the progress of Nova Scotia's knowledge-based economy. Its purpose was to evaluate the knowledge-based economy and its social and economic implications in Nova Scotia; to increase Nova Scotians' awareness of the opportunities and possibilities offered by the knowledge-based economy; and to build Nova Scotians' confidence in their own ability to seize these opportunities. The 1998 Report Card is not available in electronic format. If you would like to receive a paper copy, please contact our office. |
