Benefiting the Enviroment & Our Schools
Approximately 4,500 tonnes of electronic waste, which can contain mercury, lead and flame retardants, will end up in Nova Scotia landfills this year.
novakowledge encourages its members and the private sector to do their part for the environment by donating used computers.
 |
Not only do you reduce the amount of electronic waste, but you also support computer literacy for students. The Computers for Schools program ensures that students in urban and rural areas can gain access to computers. |
Providing Valuable Work Experience
The Computers for Schools program also facilitates on-the-job training through the Technical Work Experience Program.
Each year the Technical Work Experience Program (TWEP) hires about 20 students and recent graduates of college- university-level programs in information technology. The Program provides these young people with a minimum of 13 weeks experience with the possibility of up to an additional 13 weeks extension of paid, practical 'First Job' experience.
The Computers for Schools repair centres are located in Halifax, Sackville, Truro, Sydney, Lawrencetown, and Indian Brook.
